A Bright Light, A Lasting Legacy

Almendra was a deep, permanent light to her family, friends, teammates, and coaches. The “big sister” of triplets by a proud 30 seconds—a playful milestone she never let her twin brothers, Senen and Nicolas, forget—she moved through life with a rare, natural gift for empathy. From her early days singing in the elementary school choir to her four years playing competitive volleyball with the Frisco Flyers, Almendra always knew exactly when someone needed a word of encouragement, a comforting gesture, or a simple smile.

To those who knew her, she protected others’ peace.

An Unforgettable Triumph of Will

When clinical mental health challenges required her to step away from volleyball to protect her peace, Almendra redirected her focus with a quiet, fierce determination. Her greatest athletic achievement came that summer, when she poured her entire heart into a brand-new discipline: swimming.

With only two months of grueling, highly disciplined training under the guidance of her coach at the local LifeTime Frisco health club, she accomplished the near-impossible. Through sheer grit and an unshakeable work ethic, she proudly tried out for and earned a coveted spot on the Panther Creek High School Varsity Swim Team. It was a monumental triumph that proved to everyone the absolute depth of her character, resilience, and strength.

Yet, for a child navigating severe clinical struggles, the school day can become an unmanageable minefield when rigid processes take over. When a sudden crisis manifested, the automated disciplinary system immediately defaulted to isolation and the imminent threat of sending her to the SOC, threatening to strip away the very varsity swim identity and stable anchors she had fought so hard to build. Tragically, the system’s administrative momentum outpaced her timeline, and we lost Almendra.

Turning Loss into a Shield

The Almendra Foundation for Restorative Student Guidance was born from a father’s love and a community’s shared grief. We do not stand to criticize our public educational institutions, but to actively collaborate with them. Our mission is to ensure that a child’s mental health crisis is met with structural stability, not social isolation.

By design, our foundation provides the critical operational resources, clinical telehealth integration grids, and dedicated family advocates required to keep vulnerable Section 504 students safely anchored to their classrooms, their sports, and their fine arts peer routines while they heal. We are turning a profound loss into a lifetime protective shield for every child fighting a quiet battle.
